A Health Maintenance Organization, or HMO, is an organization that provides or arranges managed care for health insurance, self-funded health care benefit plans, individuals and other entities in the U.S. and acts as a liaison with health care providers (hospitals, doctors, etc.) on a prepaid basis. If your health insurance plan is an HMO, this means you will have access to a network of medical professionals but will need to stay within that network for coverage. HMO plans will typically have lower/no deductibles and lower premiums than PPO plans.
